  • Marietta Memorial Drive - June 17 to 20 - From Marietta to Morristown to Marietta all in one day!

Mark those calendars, save the date and all those other things you do to remember the fun things in life, that's right, it's The Marietta Memorial Drive 2021, June 17-20. A lighthearted romp through southern Ohio, lots of great friends and outstanding food, and amazingly fun to drive roads. Yeah, Route 26 and Route 555 will still be in the mix, but we've added new roads to up your driving fun quotient Enough with an intro, here's the real reason for all of this wordiness.

This meet is very special to many of us as it combines two of the best thing about S2000 ownership: Friendship:Maury was a friend to everyone he met. I'd like to think that feeling will continued throughout life's twists and turns and will help to bring a bit of light to everyone The Drive: The roads of southern Ohio are full of twisties and elevation changes; perfect for the S2000. We will drive through back country areas with rivers, forests, farms and covered bridges and small town America. The drive starts with the drive to lunch at Pike 40 in Morristown. We'll be driving some new to us roads to get you prepared for the afternoon's fun. That fun is Route 26 from Morristown to Marietta. This is a spectacular rollercoaster of a road and you get to see it from a different perspective. The drive takes about 4 hours. If you like a bit of challenge for your car and yourselfl,Route 26 will not disappoint.

    The Hotel Information:
    Hampton Inn Marietta

    508 Pike Street
    Marietta, OH 45750
    Phone: (740) 373-5353
    Rate: $99/night

    The Tentative Itinerary:

Thursday: The Early Arrival relaxation day: Hang out, relax, take life easy. Prepare for the upcoming fun. There will probably be a totally disorganized dinner around 6:00pm somewhere that you can join in or you can just stay in and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Friday: 6:00 pm - Dinner out: Not really a formal part of the meet but it seems to have become a tradition. We'll meet in the hotel lobby at 5:45 pm for the drive to a surprise restaurant. Good food is even better with great company.

Saturday: 9:00 am - The Maury Memorial Run. There will be at least two groups for the drive, a somewhat spirited group and a more sedate group. Select the group you'd like to be in and come along to lunch at Pike 40 in Morristown, OH. Relax, check the scenery, maybe hang out for a bit and then get ready for the return drive down Route 26. You will arrive at the Hampton Inn in plenty of time to get ready for the Saturday night dinner.

Saturday 6:00 pm - Buckley House for Dinner. An amazing restaurant with generous portions, a large selection of great food and an amazing wine list. We'll meet in the lobby at 5:30 pm for the drive to the restaurant. Make sure you bring your appetite. Mike, one of my favorite servers will be there to help, insult, and in general take csre of us. It's worth going just to hang out with him.

Sunday: Tthe day for loading the car, looking back on all the fun you've had, the great conversations, the new friends you've made and then heading home. I hope you've enjoyed yourself and that we'll see you for Tomcatt 2022 - The Rt. 555 Drive. Until then, please drive carefully on your way home.

In 1912, a law passed in Nebraska where drivers in the country at night were required to stop every 150 yards, send up a skyrocket, and wait eight minutes for the road to clear before proceeding cautiously, all the while blowing their horn and shooting off flares.

Welcome. There will be lots of chances to leaf peep and maybe even get in a touch of "spirited". I can guarantee lots of interesting driving.

Updated my reservation for only Saturday night. Plan to be in Marietta from Wright-Patterson AFB on Saturday morning (3 hours from home).

I may ask to ride with someone, as the S2000 is in the Body Shop and may not be ready. The 944 needs shocks and brakes and will not be resolved by then, but will drive it to the event, if the S2000 is not ready.

Of course, everything is dependent on how my recent back injury heals by the time for the event.

Meds are 24 hours in and are helping. My 7 to 8 pain level is down to a 3 to 4, with a nerve blocker, steroids and a nighttime muscle relaxer.. Going back to the doc on Monday, for a checkup. X-Rays were inconclusive (texted Ken the results). Want to get a CT or MRI done to verify what the issue is.

What happened was, that I was driving the 944 to Aaron's house, on Friday. When I shifted the 944 in to 2nd, my timing was a touch off and the transmission grabbed really hard and violently shook the car. My low back to a large hit of it.

Been looking forward to the Tomcat Run/Marietta Memorial Drive since I haven't been able to come for the past 3 summers:
                                    - my son's wedding
                                    - right hip replacement
                                    - Covid.

I lived across the river from Marietta in Williamstown from 1970 to 1985, from 17 yrs old & 1 day out of High School to married & 2 children later before moving to Indy.
I won't be staying at the motel but with family b/c they would be insulted if I didn't.
                                    Ken, I know you think it's b/c I'm cheap!

I'll be driving over from Indy Thursday & will hang around the lobby.
Ken, feel free to text & let me know when you're in if you like.
Thursday evening I'm looking forward to eating with a few of the early birds & old friends that I enjoyed in my time with S2KCA when I bought in April 2010 & the Ziebart manager told me about the club!
