  • Midwest caravan to S2Kdays '06

I checked Streets and Trips and found that I should head straight West to central Iowa and then take I-35 all the way down to San Antonio. My route, however, can be very flexible in order to pick up as many people along the way as possible. Please let me know.

Looking at the map I see that at some point quite a few members will travel at least part of the way on I-35, Fredric, JAS6762, hamrhd, and Karwath to mention a few.

Along the way it would be fun to join up with other caravans from other areas.

Upon entering Texas I would suppose that more than a few members will also be caravaning that we could join up with.

We really need to get something solid lined up so we can come up with some sort of itinerary of where to meet, where to spend the night, etc. I would really like to hear from people
who are interested so we can get something going so everyone can make their plans on where to join and what other caravans we can meet.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Our routing will also take us down I-35 to San Antonio. Our timing will probably be pretty tight, so we were planning to point 'er south and let 'er run.
Not all who wander are lost...

We are part of that group of folks who have driven their S2000 more than 100,000 miles.

If the group in Texas is anything like the group that did Lake Superior it will be a hoot. Just made reservations at the resort and they still have a few slots left so sign up asap if you are even thinking about going. Big dog, I have reservations for the 28th on too. Lets get as many midwesterners to caravan down together as we can.!!

We really need to start planning if we want to caravan down. Come on along. Getting there may prove to be 1/2 the fun!!! :drivingsk

Any ideas for a route to S2KDays would be appreciated. It would be nice to pick up as many as we can along the way.

Head south to St. Louis, turn west (is it I-40?) and then south towards Fort Smith. You'll hit the Talimeda Scenic Byway (check the "Great S2000 Drives" forum) betwen Oklahoma and Arkansas. You won't regret it.

Griffon - Don't know when the DFW guys are leaving, but if you guys plan it, on the way to San Antonio, the DFW chapter is on the way. Huge group for the remaining 4 1/2 hours.

Strike what I originally said... looks like we might be leaving Friday AM to get there in time for the karting event after all. Just waiting on Teresa's timeoff request to be approved.

i plan on leaving Springfield on Wednesday and driving to Dallas and stay the night (approx 7 hours). I will leave Dallas sometime on Thursday (maybe with the Dallas group) to arrive in SA on Thursday night. My route to Dallas right now is I-44 west to OK city then I-35 south. I am flexible as on that Wednesday when I need to leave.

Here are our tentative plans for the trip from North Dakota to S2K Days. Ideally we would like to arrive at my sister's house about 4:00 to 5:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon and proceed to Tapatio Resort on Thursday with whoever is going that way. We can adjust both our departure and arrival times to try to meet up with other travellers along the way.

Go South on I-29 to Nebraska Exit 10.
Pick up Nebraska State Route 2 across to US-75 - 6.5 to 7 Hours after departure
Continue South on US-75 to pick up I-35 at Kansas Exit 155 East of Emporia, KS
Continue on I-35 through Kansas Exit 53 east of Wichita, KS - 10.5 to 11.5 Hours after departure
Continue on I-35 through Oklahoma Exit 126 in Oklahoma City - 12.5 to 14 Hours after departure
Continue on I-35 to about Texas Exit 85B near Denton, TX - 14.5 to 16.5 Hours after departure
Arrive at to my sister’s house in Euless, TX - 17 to 19 Hours after departure

We are not adverse to a departure between midnight and one am which would get us to that 1st check point in Nebraska about breakfast time. Typically when we travel cross country we don't stop much but I am willing to adjust that pattern to accomodate others. I should add the caveat that while I am willing to press the posted speed limits by the obligatory 5 MPH or so, if you wish to lead a procession of flashy S2000's down the interstate at 85-90 MPH we will join up with you when we get there. We don't need to attract that kind of attention to ourselves.

I could not think of a single person who'd even think of anything like that.......
