Based on the increasing attendance and at the request of many attendees, we have decided to turn the annual Brown County Drive into a multi-day Regional Event.
Here is the 2009 Thread for anyone who wasn't there .... https://www.s2kca.com/S2000/showthread.php?t=31793
Because this is a very popular destination and does not have a LOT of rooms, we are going to need a deposit for this event (if you need to reserve a room) before mid-November.
WHEN: Sept. 30, Oct 1 & 2, 2010
WHERE: The Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park - http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/inns/abe/
ROOMS: Room Rate is $112/night. We have seven rooms reserved for Thursday night and Twenty-five rooms for Friday and Saturday. You cannot make a room reservation until you have paid the EVENT DEPOSIT (see below). You cannot reserve a room for Thursday night without staying Friday & Saturday night. Free WiFi is provided.
You CANNOT RESERVE A ROOM until you have paid your event deposit. The rooms cannot be reserved until the Group Room is fully paid for (that is the reason for the deposit being needed soon).
All rooms must be reserved before Aug. 15th 2010 - BUT, we expect these rooms to go fast. So, procrastinator beware. This is a VERY populor lodge at a very populor time ... so I don't expect there to be more rooms available if these are all booked.
EVENT FEE: $60/person – covers unlimited use of OUR GROUP ROOM as well as Saturday night dinner buffet and Sunday morning breakfast buffet (including tax and gratuity). We get the use of OUR GROUP ROOM from early Friday morning through Sunday noon. Early arrivals on Friday can store their things in this room until they can check-in.
You do not need to pay an event fee if you are only going on the drive(s) and lunches - and not staying at the Lodge or going to the dinner Saturday night - although the dinner is a great part of the event.
EVENT DEPOSIT: In order to block OUR GROUP ROOM as well as the Lodge rooms, we must pay the Lodge a deposit by Nov 10. Therefore, by the end of October, we will need to receive a deposit from those wanting to reserve a room. This deposit will be non-refundable, but transferable. No one will be able to reserve a room until they pay this deposit. This deposit does not reserve a room for you … you will still need to reserve your own room after I add you to the approved-to-reserve list.
The Event Deposit is $60 per room. Please PM me for how to pay this. This deposit will apply toward your Event Fee. It will not apply toward your room.
BASICALLY - this deposit is one person's event fee (for the use of the Group Room, Saturday night Dinner and Sunday morning breakfast.
For those who want to participate in the Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast without reserving a room, the Event Fee covers those items, whether you get a room or not. You do not need a room to participate in any of the activities. You also do not need to pay an event fee if you are only going on the drive(s) and lunches
MEALS: The Event Fee covers Saturday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast at the Lodge. We will plan to “carry-in” something for Friday night or you can eat out. Saturday lunch will be at the Story Inn.
ALCOHOL: No alcohol can be sold inside the park. It can be carried in and consumed in most areas of the park but it must be in a non-identifiable container (a cup/mug). Therefore, BYOB and bring a cup/mug. IMPORTANT - NO IDENTIFIABLE ALCOHOL can be outside of YOUR sleeping room. That means no coolers in your car or in our meeting room. You can carry your mug wherever, but must go back to your room to refill it. You can bring the beverages into the park, but not in a cooler. They go into a cooler once in your room and the cooler must stay in your room.
OUR GROUP ROOM: We get unlimited use of the Allison Peabody Room from Friday morning (before check-in) through Sunday noon. This room has two working fireplaces and seats 64 for dinner very easily. http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/inns/abe/groups.html
PARKING: There is a separate lower parking lot that will work great for us. We will research washing-facilities.
PARK ENTRANCE FEE: There is a $5 for Indiana residents and $7 for out of state residents entrance fee. Everyone will have to pay this the first time they enter the park. We were told that a room key would work from that point on. The fee is a daily fee; therefore, I want to verify that the room key will cover the following days.
For those not staying in a room, the only day you will need to enter the park will be Saturday for the dinner. We’ll work out some form of discount for the event fee for those who don’t want Sunday’s breakfast. Details are still being worked out.
THINGS TO DO: We are working on some great ideas. Here are a couple of them.
~ There are many great roads that lead to various interesting destinations such as West Baden Springs and French Lick Spa and Casoino, Oliver Winery and Huber Winery. Or just great drives that come back to the Lodge.
~ Drive to West Baden Springs Hotel … a GORGEOUS old high-class resort with at-one-time the largest unsupported dome in the US. http://www.frenchlick.com/hotels/westBaden/index.jsp (tour is $10)
~ within minutes of W. Baden is the French Lick Resort, Spa and Casino …. http://www.frenchlick.com/
~ The Story Inn has a very nice outdoor patio to hang out on ... after the DRIVE to get there
~ There are several wineries nearby – two with large decks overlooking ponds – and both have nice drives to get to them … a great place to drive to and hang out during the afternoon
~ There are super photo opps at several places within the State park
~ Shopping in Nashville
~ no, an IU football game is NOT on the list!
~ Putnam Park Race Track is about 75 minutes to the North West. We are negotiating to have a track day on Monday, Oct. 3rd. More infor in a month or so.
More details to be added as we get things more solidified.
