  • CANCELED: Southwest Tour - Valley of Fire - October 23-25, 2020

***EVENT NOTE AS OF SEPTEMBER 25, 2020***

    Hello everyone,

I am sad to say that the SW Tour - Valley of Fire trip is cancelled. I am disappointed that the event, which has already been postponed once, is still not at a time when it is safe to travel.

Before coming to this decision, I researched the latest trends on the infection rates for the virus, and the short-term outlook is not good. Forbes reported that the increased travel during the Labor Day weekend has caused infection rates to spike. You can read about that here, Forbes Article Link. Additionally, Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Research Center ranks Clark county (Las Vegas) in Nevada as one of the top ten hotspots in the nation. Here is the Johns Hopkins map of the US indicating all the COVID-19 hotspots.

I would be devastated to hear that anyone has come ill or died due to contracting the virus as a result of attending an event that I organized. This is not the time to be organizing large gatherings of people. It would be irresponsible to move forward and host an event that encourages people to travel at this time. There are too many points of contact when traveling that can lead to catching and spreading the virus. This is not how we will beat this pandemic. The sooner we can get this pandemic under control, the sooner we can travel freely again.

I sincerely hope that the SW Tour - Valley of Fire event will happen next year, but no new dates have been set at this time.

    Thank you, and stay healthy!
    Jason

Booked! It'll be a 2-day drive from OKI, but I'm excited to join you in this tour!

I should be able to get to Tinker AFB (OK), which will break up the trip fairly evenly.

Booked a room. I'm committed now (to something other than the nut house).

We’re going to talk about this and hope to have a decision within a week or so. We only get so many days off each year and we already have three big trips next year. I used to have frequent trips to Las Vegas for many years. The lure of the lights and tables has waned. Yet the dam tour I have not done in decades and it will bring back memories to visit Red Rock State Park again if we can make it.

                      ^^
I have been to the dam and took a tour, but it was quite a few years ago now. I'm looking forward to the driving and the scenery and, of course, seeing people I haven't seen in awhile.

This trip might give me a deadline and incentive for an aftermarket seat cooler project.

With all of these ride and drive events I've been doing, I have found a few things that the newer cars have which I wish the S2000 had. Some things are not possible. Others are achievable. The seats in the S2000 already have perforated sections and air can flow through that. Kits exist for this. I plan to look into that and, if it's doable on my budget and skill set, I plan to give it a shot.

This is something which might be great for a midwinter tech day here in SoCal.

Sounds like a great idea, let me know how you do! I've often wanted cooled seats, but couldn't come up with a doable solution.
Upholstery is not my best skill, although I can do a great fix on scuffed discolored seat bolsters with leather stain.
FYI To find a $33 to $60 simple solution alternative try Amazon "Air conditioned seat cushion" not factory installed or stock looking but is, I imagine, functional.

Of course I'll post about it. I mean... did you think for even a split second that I wouldn't?

If I'm able to do anything with this idea, I will definitely post in the appropriate sub-forum for that and share with everyone.

Keep me posted, as I want to look into that, as well as, seat warmers! It's the Midwest, ya know! Early Spring and Autumn (we drive until the salt and snow stop us!), the warmers would be a nice addition.
